Why Students Need To Plan Their Essay Writing

Writing a plan before starting an essay or project is always a good idea. It can help you formulate ideas and ensure that the structure of your final essay is appropriate and logical.

When you set out your essay plan it can be used for a traditional essay to be submitted or for you to plan your essay in an exam. And this will help you greatly in an exam as you will be able to plan your writing and know which direction you should go in.

You should be able to construct a plan for your essay in a short period of time, making notes of what you want to discuss in your essay, and this will take you between 5 and 10 minutes. You will also want to make sure that you read the essay questions carefully, as you will be able to understand where your essay is going by the different angles it takes. If you are a person who rushes in, then you are probably also someone who doesn’t seem to get the highest marks, this planning can help you greatly.

If you are writing essays and they do not have a beginning, middle and end and their flow isn’t logical, then you may find that they are award fewer marks than one that does. When you write your essay, you will need to understand that the examiner will need to have enough time to look through your essay and grade it easily.

If you are simply working on an essay to submit in the next week or so, then you will be able to refine your plan to suit you and make sure that you have taken all of the necessary research to discover all of the information that you will need to finalize your work. This plan will also help you eliminate any inconsistencies that you may have and also help you gather your ideas under one heading.

When you have a plan for your essay you will be able to identify the different stages of your work and thus the question that you are attempting to answer. You will also find it easier to understand the direction of your argument and the ability of your reader to understand opinions from the different theories you are presenting.

It is often recommended that you write your titles, your headings and your outline before you begin writing. This is so that your writing is definitely being directed the way that you want it to go, and stops you risking going off course. Producing these titles and then jotting information underneath will count as a plan, and make writing your first draft so much easier. It is a lot easier to focus if you have something to keep you on track.

Therefore, it will be important to plan the actual writing of your essay to be able to concentrate on the valuable parts and not be confused if you have included all of the relevant points. This plan may also help you clarify the question, what is contained, and what you will need to do to complete it.
