Watch Out For Mails with Government Signs on its Letterhead

Many of us can become victims of different kinds of scams or frauds – it can by credit card fraud or the worst, social security number identity theft. Almost all of us have our own number but the fact remains that few of us only know the specifics on how it really works. To an average person or to younger generations, these numbers are just part of the many government programs, that maybe some of us are not really interested for the simple reason that we don’t understand it.

Criminals have become so creative these days that their victims won’t even know that they have been scammed until it is too late – their life savings have vanished and the worst part is, they are paying bills that they don’t even remember where it came from.

SSN fraud greatly varies. I’m sure many of you have experienced this, when you receive a mail with government symbols in its letterhead. Having a government symbol on the letterhead does not essentially mean that it’s justifiable or authentic. These unusual mails claim that they are from the Social Security Number Administration, which is an autonomous body tasked to control and legalize these numbers.

In this case, the letter will often say that they provide different consumer services like changes for the name for newly married individuals, and the worst part is, they claim that their services are free of charge, when in fact, they have many different hidden fees. You have to remember that these services were already provided the by the agency the moment you were issued one.

These scammers only want money from you but sometimes they will look for opportunities to steal your identity. We have to be vigilant and make sure that we are always on the look out should these events occur and you might be their next target.

Many ways can be exercised to avoid being defrauded, but if you know or if you suspect that you might be a victim of a scam, what you can do is call the toll free number which is in your card and you can ask for their assistance.
