Farms For Sale South Africa

Prospective purchasers of farms for sale South Africa will be interested in the political, social and economic conditions in the country. This can never be foretold certainly. There country does have a high crime rate and naked racism on the statute book. It also has a poor reputation in the world and is situated at the southern end of a continent well known for chaos and corruption. Despite these facts the country does not appear to be doing too badly in the context of world history.

There have been no terrorist activities since the former terrorists were voted into government. When terrorists bombed London and New York South Africans went about their business as usual. China may have been threatened by the SARS virus, but a man who fell seriously ill in China returned home to world class medical treatment paid for by his private medical insurance scheme. Similar private medical treatment was unavailable in China.

Within South Africa there are several different tribes and some well defined socio-cultural groups claiming rights to citizenship. The Afrikaans group have their own Afro-European language and have contributed mightily to the country, even putting up a brave fight for freedom against British imperialists. The descendants of those same imperialists are citizens, as are the descendants of Indian settlers and millions of people of mixed heritages. Such diversity provides checks and balances against despotism.

The agricultural land of South Africa covers a treasure trove of minerals. Gold. Coal, diamonds platinum, copper and iron lie beneath the surface. Geologically the country is stable and the climate is benign. Tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and storms have afflicted other parts of the world recently, but not South Africa.

The worst climactic disasters are likely to be droughts but in the most arid parts of the country farmers are so well adapted to the dry conditions that they would not know what to do with too much rain. Sheep and ostriches are farmed profitably in semi-desert conditions and crops flourish if they can be irrigated.

Eastern parts of the country are most heavily populated, largely by Zulu and Xhosa tribes people. Undulating country slopes down from a mountain escarpment to the Indian Ocean. Rainfall is high enough to support plantations of softwoods and sugar cane. There are also many thriving dairy, poultry and game farms.

Flat arable lands stretch west from the Drakensberg mountain range. They are drained by the famous Orange and Vaal rivers that empty into the Atlantic ocean. In these areas very profitable grain and arable farms exist. They produce the bulk of maize, sorghum, sunflowers and such grain crops for the country. There are also very profitable farms around the big cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The landscapes in this diverse country reflect the diversity of human and animal types. In the southern areas there are older estates that have been developed over centuries of ownership. Around Cape Town there are wine estates first started in the seventeenth century. Many are now owned by foreign investors, as are large game farms across the country. Wheat is grown extensively on properties the stretch beneath beautiful rocky mountains.

There is a great diversity in prices and sizes of farms for sale in South Africa. As a very general rule a viable operation can be bought for between one and five million American dollars. This will provide a steady income, spacious house with all modern conveniences and several cottages. There may well be a steady river or water supply and amount of wild game resident on the far. Every farming enterprise will have its challenges but the benign climate and beauty of the landscape will ensure a good quality of life in South Africa.
